1. Selecting a course. It is the responsibility of the applicant to identify an appropriate postgraduate academic program at an Australian university of their choice. These can be identified through a range of sources that include:
- online through the Australian Universities Website This website provides a listing of all universities in Australia and allows you to search all on the list; to search by City; and to search by State. The website also contains contact points and information for international enrolments and procedures at each university and general information about courses and the universities themselves.
- a registered agent of Australian universities. Contact details of registered agents or university representatives in most countries can be found online.
- visiting representatives of Australian universities. Universities conduct marketing and promotional tours on a regular basis to a number of Arab League Countries. These are usually advertised in the media and through universities and provide an opportunity for face-to-face discussion of courses available at the various institutions and admission and enrolment procedures.
2. Meeting the entry requirements Two criteria are important for entry into universities in Australia : English language requirements and academic level requirements.
A prerequisite for both scholarship eligibility and university entry in Australia is an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent level of English language competency . There is no provision under the CAAR Scholarship Scheme for students to undertake language training to qualify for university entrance. The equivalency of different language test scores are shown here: http://secure.vec.bc.ca/toefl-equivalency-table.cfm
The Academic level requires at least a completed Bachelor Degree from a recognised university and preferably some postgraduate study or qualifications. Academic credit may be extended to students who have undertaken previous postgraduate study. This will be decided by the relevant university.
3. Submitting your Application for Enrolment All Australian universities have enrolment application forms which can be downloaded from their websites. All relevant sections should be completed.
Most universities charge an application fee at the time of enrolment. This fee is deducted from the course fees if you are successful in your application, and will be reimbursed if you are awarded a CAAR scholarship.
In addition to your application form, you will need to include certified/notarised copies of award certificates, academic transcripts and evidence of English language proficiency.
4. Processing of the Application Once received by the university, an application for enrolment in postgraduate courses can take up to three weeks to be processed. Allow for this time and postal delivery times to and from the university before expecting a reply.
If successful, you will receive an unconditional Letter of Offer from the university for your preferred course. (A copy of this Letter of Offer must accompany your scholarship application.)
5. Applying for a CAAR Scholarship
Once you have received the unconditional Letter of Offer from an Australian university, the next step is to complete the CAAR Scholarship Application Form. The form is available from this website or via email using info@caarscholarships.com . This email address can also be used should you have any queries or difficulties regarding completion of the application form or enquiries about other aspects of the Scholarship Scheme.
Once completed and all necessary documentation is attached, the form should be forwarded to:

6. Selection of Awardees
An initial short-listing of candidates will be undertaken by a select committee in Dubai . The final selection of successful awardees will be undertaken by CAAR.
7. Selection Criteria
Candidates will be judged on:
- their general academic record;
- the match between their current or previous studies and their proposed course;
- the quality of their written responses to the question on the Application Form relating to the match between their proposed program in Australia and their ongoing studies; and
- the quality of their written responses to the question on the Application Form relating to the match between their proposed program in Australia and the aims of CAAR.
8. Closing Date for Submissions
The 2008 Semester 2 CAAR Scholarships Program is now closed to applications.
9 . Notification to Candidates
All candidates will be contacted irrespective of success or failure in their applications. Should you be unsuccessful in the first round, this should not deter you from reapplying in the second round. Successful candidates will be notified as soon as possible after the final selection is made.
10. Application for visas to study in Australia
Having gained enrolment to an Australian university through the Letter of Offer and the award of a CAAR scholarship, application should be made to the closest Australian Embassy or Consulate for a student visa. This process could take up to several months.
11. Pre Departure Briefing
There will be a pre-departure briefing for successful applicants held in Dubai prior to commencement of the university semester. This is likely to occur at the end of June. The exact date will be confirmed with successful applicants nearer to the time. |
